Veronica Garcia, Ph.D., is passionate about advancing global microbiological innovation and policy. As Director of the 黑料正能量Applied and Environmental Microbiology Unit, she will contribute to ASM’s Micro2040 Strategic Roadmap to shape the future of microbial sciences through strategic initiatives that connect microbial research with real-world applications.

A champion for mentorship and public engagement, Garcia is committed to shaping the future of microbial science through collaboration, innovation and inclusivity. Her career reflects a commitment to advancing microbial sciences across industry, academia and government.

In her previous role as Senior Director of R&D at Boost Biomes, a biotech startup, Garcia led scientific teams in microbial discovery and product development, engineered proprietary discovery platforms and secured commercialization partnerships, culminating in commercial microbial products and multiple patents. With a strong foundation in interdisciplinary collaboration, she has led cross-sector efforts spanning biotechnology, agriculture, fermentation and environmental microbiology. As a scientist at Johnson Space Center, she conducted environmental monitoring for NASA to ensure astronaut health for the Shuttle and International Space Station programs. She earned her Ph.D. in microbiology and molecular genetics while conducting foundational research on yeast stress responses, supported by fellowships from the NIH and ASM.
