Presentation
A 58-year-old male with obesity, type 2 diabetes and heart failure was found unconscious in his car by his family. Upon arrival of emergency medical services, he was responsive but hypotensive, with a blood pressure of 66/38, and tachycardic, with a heart rate of 140. He had fevers and chills. The family reported that he had been in good health immediately prior to this event, with no sick contacts. When admitted to the emergency department, he was febrile with a temperature of 39.3°C and found to be in septic shock. He was started on broad-spectrum antibiotics as well as multiple high-dose vasopressors and was admitted to the ICU. His condition did not improve.
